MultiplayerVRBlender

3D modeling is better with friends.

Coplanar turns Blender into a multiplayer VR workspace where you can build together, from a headset or a desktop.

Open source. Built at Cal Hacks 13.

shared_scene.blend Headset Desktop
Interactive illustration drawn in your browser, not a capture of the app. Pick a seat, then a tool. Drag to orbit.

    Why Coplanar

    Three ideas, one workspace.

    01

    Multiplayer

Build in the same scene at the same time. You see who is here and what they are working on, and their name appears on anything they are editing, so nobody overwrites anybody.

    02

    VR

Put on a Quest and your model sits on a table in your room at true size. Walk around it, grab it and shape it with the controllers.

    03

    Blender

Every edit happens in Blender itself. It is your real project file with native Undo, Redo and Save, not a copy and not a viewer.

    Two seats, one model

One of you in the headset. One of you at the desk.

    In the headset

    • Model directly with your controllers, from blocking out to fine detail.
    • Move, rotate and scale with handles, or type exact numbers.
    • Keep the live Blender window on a panel beside you and work in it without taking the headset off.
    • Ask for changes out loud.

    At the desk

    • Use Blender exactly the way you already do.
    • Watch your teammate's edits land in your viewport as they happen.
    • Shortcuts, gizmos and fields stay in sync with the headset.
    • Undo, Redo and Save from either seat.

    Modeling, for real

The tools you reach for in Blender, in your hands.

Coplanar edits actual meshes. Select, push and cut geometry from the headset with the same operations a desktop modeler uses, and with the same precision.

    • G

      Move

Grab and place anything, or slide along an axis.

    • R

      Rotate

Turn by hand or by exact degrees.

    • S

      Scale

      Resize uniformly or per axis.

    • E

      Extrude

Pull new geometry out of a face.

    • I

      Inset

Shrink a face inward to add detail.

    • ⌃B

      Bevel

      Soften hard edges into chamfers.

    • ⌃R

      Loop cut

Add an edge loop exactly where you need it.

    • K

      Knife

Cut your own lines across faces.

    • 123

      Exact values

Type numbers when eyeballing is not enough.

    • ▣

      Blender panel

The live Blender window, clickable, right in VR.

    • ⌃Z

      Undo and Redo

Blender's own history, shared by everyone.

    • ⌃S

      Save

Write the real .blend from any seat.

    Voice

Say what you want. Check the plan. Watch it build.

Coplanar knows what is in your scene and what you have selected, so you can talk the way you would to a teammate. Quick requests like “make this twice as tall” just happen. Bigger ideas come back as a step by step modeling plan that you review before anything changes.

    1. Whisperhears you
    2. Geminiplans the edit
    3. Blenderbuilds it

Example request: “Turn this cube into a lantern. Taper the top, add a cap and a couple of bands around the middle.”

    Plan 6 steps

    1. Scale the top face to 78%
    2. Loop cut around the middle
    3. Widen that loop to 112%
    4. Inset the top face
    5. Extrude the cap 0.45 m
    6. Bevel the cap edge 0.10 m
Example request, illustrated. Press Apply plan to watch each step run.

    Not a viewer

When the session ends, you have a real Blender file.

    Native history

Every change is a step in Blender's own Undo history, no matter who made it or which seat it came from.

    Nothing to export

Save from the headset, then open the same .blend at your desk tomorrow. Every edit is right where you left it.

    Blender stays in charge

The headset and every teammate send their edits into one Blender scene, so there is a single source of truth and no copies to reconcile.

    Sessions

    Same room, or across town.

SpacetimeDB coordinates who is in the session and who is editing each object. It also connects teammates on different networks, so your collaborator's Blender can join from home while you model in the headset.

    • See who is in the session and what each person is working on.
    • Anything someone is editing shows their name, and conflicting edits are held back.
    • Keep your Blender project on the host PC and connect teammates across networks through SpacetimeDB.

Made for small teams that make things

    Less screen sharing. More building.

    Block out a prop together

One person roughs out the shape in VR while another refines edges and numbers in Blender, in the same pass.

    Review at real size

Check proportions where they matter, standing next to the model, and fix what you see on the spot.

    Pair across networks

Your teammate does not need to be in the room. They join the session from their own Blender, wherever they are.

    Get started

    Build something together.

Coplanar is open source. The Blender add-on, the Quest app and setup instructions all live in the GitHub repository.

    1. Bring Blender

Blender 5.2 on a Windows PC, with the Coplanar add-on enabled.

    2. Bring a headset

A Meta Quest 3S connected with Link runs the Coplanar VR app.

    3. Bring a friend

A teammate joins the session from Blender on their own computer.
